We were looking for gluten-free restaurants and found the "gluten-free tag" for this place on tripadvisor. Unfortunately, they don't have a gluten-free meal, we had to explain many times our needing and we had only two choices from the menu. Something for everyone on the menu -- multiple schnitzel choices; goulash looked great;... Them another 30 minutes, by which time the others had already finished their meals. My Beef Burger was also only average at best (for an above-average price).
No waiters to bring you to the table, take your orders, clear the plates or look after you. As good as the location is, as great as the food is, with No Service at all how can this unique place stay and survive?? As every Gastronom knows the heart of all is the outstanding service that brings people in again. It was my first time in this restaurant.

German food and local Frankfurt dishes are the specialty. I came here for a few days in a row for lunch as part of a group. The food was always well prepared... And my salad was huge, fresh and tasty.

I had dinner there with a couple of friends. After we had placed our order, it took them over an hour until the food was finally served. Well, actually only the food my friends had ordered, because they had completely forgotten my order.
Definitely avoid as it is not worth a visit. The Name says it all, it is traditional for Frankfurt with a great location and good food. But as old as the building is, you would think it comes with tradition and outstanding service- but no one knows, as you never get to see or... This is quite a big place and somewhat popular right next to Sudbahnhof.

And while the prices aren't totally over the top, they are quite steep considering that the helpings were rather small. Though that point is moot because I didn't think food of that quality was worth paying for... Lots of negative reviews - but not sure I went to the same restraunt!
Very busy - but we were sat upstairs and told we should be patient. Service however was superb - wasnt rushed and wasnt quick - perfect for a longer dinner. The meat was not tender and lacked taste. The servers were all quite busy but still rather attentive. It just looks like such a fun place, it’s a shame that the food just isn’t very good.
Honestly that was not our experience at all. The restaurant is right around the corner from our office in Frankfurt, so we're frequent guests and will continue to give Depot 1899 our business. Everyone speaks English which is an added... The food was awful, the service was worse.
Overall definitely a disappointing experience and not a restaurant I would visit for a second time. Main I ordered a Schnitzel and it was so tough I had to leave half of it. The waiters walk so fast that can’t see customer that need attention and meet by the bar where they laugh and talk. It took them literally an hour to clear my plate after I finished my main After clearing my plate, no question was asked and now after 15 minutes I am still waiting for my bill.
It was an organised dinner for 11 people. The starters were ok and the food, Beef, was very nice. For a restaurant that was full, the service was also very... We had high expectations of Depot 1899, but were let down by the food. I had the beef goulash and the beef was dry. Not sure how you can do that, and after much discussion we think the chef took a cigar break at the...
